Xperience isn’t a music festival with a yoga corner, it’s a yoga festival with concerts. The Yoga Vidya association brings you to its ashram grounds in Horn-Bad Meinberg for five days, and the forest starts right at the edge of the site. Often eight or nine sessions run at once, from hatha and yin to breathwork and nail boards, healing, shamanism and talks on veganism and activism. Shiva sits at the entrance, kirtan is almost always playing somewhere, and the whole thing is more spiritual than some expect.

In the evening the concert tent turns into a dance floor, with music ranging from mantra singing to rap and techno. Young and old dance together, and the closing concert ends with people holding hands and in tears.

Check first

• The house rules apply across the whole site: no alcohol, no drugs, no meat, smoking only at the car park deck; outside the sessions, quiet hours start at 11:30 pm. Don’t pack your days too full, because mealtimes clash with the programme, and it’s best to bring your own cup for drinks.

Right for you

• It fits if you want to combine yoga, workshops and dancing, sober and among people you quickly get talking to; you don’t need any yoga experience. If you’re after beer, long nights at camp and band after band, this isn’t for you.
