Way Out West is Gothenburg's August festival in Slottsskogen, a city park with woods, ponds and swan boats. The two big stages face each other across a meadow and take turns, so one show flows almost seamlessly into the next; newcomers play in the Linné tent by the lake and on Höjden hill. On top of that there are films in a tent and in the city's cinemas, on the same ticket.

At night it's first come, first in – the clubs are small, and if you stay in the park until the end you're often too late for the club show. The park is packed too: 78,000 people came in 2025, the fourth record in a row. It gets tight at the last big show and at the exit, and when changeovers are short many leave mid-set for the next stage. Shoving and blackout drunkenness are still rare.

• Buy early and through official channels: in 2026 everything sold out for the first time, and police reported fraud with tickets from social media groups. Under 18 you can't get into the clubs, under 13 you can't get onto the site at all; umbrellas stay outside, so pack a rain jacket and sturdy shoes.
