Walterra is ska, reggae and rocksteady in holiday mode: four days on a separate section of a campsite by Lake Mondsee near Hohenmölsen, close to Leipzig. The site is compact – one small stage, a few food stalls, a workshop tent, plus the beach with volleyball. There’s yoga in the mornings, and the workshops include qigong too.
Only three editions old, with around 500 guests expected, and you can tell it’s not the event industry: people who’ve been want to come back, and many bring their kids. Nobody has to be loud here to belong – you’re simply there together.

- Bring cash: cards barely worked on site, and beer was paid for with vouchers. There are no tickets on the door, the parking ticket costs extra, and put the coordinates from the festival website into your satnav rather than “Mondsee Hohenmölsen”.
Right for you
- If your crew loves the offbeat and wants a long weekend by the water, kids in tow welcome too. You should be into ska and reggae – those two set the tone here.
