Solar Weekend is a festival where the programme is part of the scenery. At the end of July a young crowd comes over the Maas bridge from Roermond, around 50,000 people in 2024 according to the organiser. The music runs from techno to moombahton, on stages that hundreds of creatives help build; in between, there’s theatre, fortune tellers and a hidden stage behind the toilets. For many, it has been a fixed date for ten or fifteen years.
The festival site opens only on Saturday and Sunday; before that, the campsite is the festival. Crews move in with handcarts, a beer pong table and a karaoke set, deck out their camp with piñatas and inflatable unicorns and party there as wildly as in front of the stages. There’s little sleep and partying until sunrise.

Check first
- Plan for the distances: from Roermond station it’s a 30 to 45 minute walk, no official shuttle bus had been announced for 2026, and the campsite stretches for kilometres. If you leave the site on Saturday or Sunday, you can’t get back in, and shopping bought outside is not allowed onto the campsite.
