Rototom isn’t a weekend, it’s a summer holiday with reggae as the soundtrack. By day, buses run to the sea, dub plays at the Solé beach bar, and dancers at the dancehall class on the sand have even been cooled off with a hose. Concerts start at sunset, and the Dub Zone and the dancehall stage keep going until it gets light – with bass that regulars miss once they’re back home.

The crowd is more mixed than at almost any other festival: families with toddlers, Rastas, older hippies and people from nearly a hundred countries. Nobody elbows their way through, many have been coming for years, and some grumble about the same old legends on the line-up.

Check first

  • The campsite is dusty with hardly any shade, and by mid-morning almost nobody can stand being in their tent. Pack a big tarp and arrive early for a spot under the almond trees – or book a room in town.
  • At the last edition you could only pay by wristband, and refunds of leftover credit had to be requested online within a set period. At the entrance you’re scanned and searched; many guests found the police and security excessive, and in 2026 there were complaints about rough searches.
