Rock am Beckenrand is a small festival run by a local association at a forest pool in the Harz, surrounded by woods, hills and an old quarry. One stage stands right by the pool: people mosh in the water, circle pits spin in the pool, and if you don’t like a band, you just swim a lap. On top of that there’s a living-room stage in a caravan, a diving tower turned into a slide, and water aerobics and beer yoga in the mornings.

All of it is built by volunteers, more than 200 of them in 2024, and guests can feel it: close-knit and warm, and after two days you know almost everyone at camp. Many came back year after year; in 2026, after 16 editions, the association declared it the last one.

• No festival is planned for 2027, and whether it will ever continue is open. If it does: pack a festival trolley, because it’s a long walk uphill from the car park to the car-free camping field, and on site you can only pay cash.
