Pepsi MAX presents Reading Festival 2026

Exams done, mates rounded up: for tens of thousands of British teenagers, Reading is the first big festival without their parents.

Almost everyone in the camps is 16 to 18 and celebrating their GCSE or A-level results, Britain's school exams; it has been that way for decades. The line-up rests on big names, Travis Scott and Bring Me the Horizon in 2025, Charli xcx in 2026: two main stages, little in between. The crowd sings along loudly to the hits but goes noticeably quiet during album tracks.

At night the camps split into two worlds: in the big fields there's shouting and people trample over tents, while in the Quiet Camp and the Eco fields wristbands are checked and people sleep. Since 2026 there has also been an over-21s camp. Sunday night has been notorious for trouble since the nineties, later on with burning tents; with cameras and a fire ban, many find it calmer now, but regulars still advise: pack up during the day and be gone before midnight.

Check first

• Sort out how you'll get home on Sunday evening: parents aren't allowed on site, pick-up is at points such as Hills Meadow, and walking to the station can take up to an hour and a half with the queue. Pack for mud and dust, pay by card and agree on a fixed meeting point, because there's hardly any phone signal.

Right for you

• You're young, travelling as a big group of mates, and want to see the big names in rap, pop and rock in one weekend. If you're older, go for the Quiet Camp, the over-21s camp or a day ticket: the crowd in front of the stages is more mixed.
