Pohoda is a festival where you spend the morning in the literature tent and the night in front of the main stage. On the old Trenčín airfield, theatre, discussions and art are as much a given as The Cure or Gorillaz. During quiet sets the crowd listens in surprising silence; after midnight the dance tents take over.

The crowd ranges from babies in slings to regulars who have been coming for almost twenty years, and Slovak and Czech bands draw young and old alike to the stage. In the camp there are hardly any gazebo forts and no speakers blasting all day; people would rather talk over homemade spirits than do beer bongs. Politics is visibly part of it, from the discussion tent to flags in front of the stage, and for some regulars that is too much.

Check first

  • Shade is scarce on the airfield, and at peak times you queue an hour or longer for the showers. Many discussions and readings are in Slovak or Czech, and if you want to get in, queue half an hour beforehand.

Right for you

  • For crews who also drop into a reading or a discussion between two concerts and would rather be surprised by unknown bands than hold a spot in front of the main stage.
