Openair Frauenfeld is Switzerland’s big hip-hop weekend, and its crowd is young: most are between 18 and 25. The line-up brings US stars from Travis Scott to A$AP Rocky, whom fans travel from Munich or Cologne to see, plus German rap from RAF Camora to Sido, and the crowd raps along to every line. Since 2025, around 100,000 guests have come instead of 160,000, and regulars argue over whether the festival is losing its soul.
For many, the vibe matters more than the line-up: outfits are planned for every day, and some turn up as a banana. On the campsite next to the stages there are gazebos, beer pong tables and disco balls, and you get to know your neighbours. You don’t see much beer; in over 30 degrees it’s more water, iced tea and Red Bull, and dust hangs over the grounds.

Check first
- Since 2026, camping costs extra: one upgrade covers up to four people, and several upgrades are only placed next to each other if you arrive together. Right at the back on area D it’s quieter, but from there it’s a quarter of an hour or more to the main stage.
- Things get stolen from tents every year, so valuables belong in a locker. Each person may bring three litres of drinks onto the campsite once, and you get in from 16; younger only with confirmation from your parents.
