52. OPEN OHR Festival

Open Ohr 2026: 70 acts, 22 May 2026 – 25 May 2026, Mainz. Line-up, timetable and a plan with your crew – free, no ads.

Line-up

By day the Citadel argues over a theme of the year; in the evening grandparents and grandchildren dance on the main meadow.

  • Festival in a fortress
  • Children’s programme every day
  • Wristband doubles as a travel ticket

Open Ohr isn’t a concert festival with a side programme but a political festival with bands. Every year a volunteer project group picks a contested theme – democracy in 2025, loneliness in 2026 – and builds panels, workshops, a theatre tent, the film cellar and cabaret around it. Talks and quiet concerts happen on the fortress wall, and people dance in the Drusus, a semicircle like an amphitheatre. Nobody makes a profit here; the festival is carried by the City of Mainz and volunteers.

The crowd is mixed like few others: teenagers, families with barefoot children and regulars who have been coming at Whitsun for decades and run into old friends here. The mood is relaxed, and you camp right in the city, on a green space next to the fortress.

Check first

  • At the campsite, loud music is off-limits from 10 pm to 8 am, and there’s no power there – pack power banks. Spirits aren’t allowed on site, nor are dogs or bikes, and day tickets are only sold at the box office, without camping and without local public transport.

Right for you

  • For crews who’d happily stumble into a debate between two concerts and don’t mind children and grandparents on the dance meadow. And for anyone who wants four days of festival with camping on a small budget.
