Open Beatz is at its best in the woods. Around the Poppenhofer Weiher pond near Herzogenaurach, the stages hide among the trees: house and techno beneath fantasy creatures at Magical Forest, Goa and psytrance opposite, hardtechno by the lake, and a dragon watches over the main stage. You'll sometimes queue for the forest stages, and at night they feel like a little rave of their own.
Musically, the festival takes everything that hits hard: hardstyle in the remote Zone 3, big EDM names and water fountains at the main stage, Cascada, Ski Aggu and Mia Julia on Sunday, brass band music in the beer garden. Many come from the region and have done for years; for them it's a home game where you run into people you know everywhere. The catch: a lot costs extra, and ads on the screens, sometimes over sets in progress, annoy the scene.

Check first
- Plan your way home in advance: the last special train leaves around 2:15 am, shuttles sell out early and taxis are hard to get. Entry is from 18; at 16 or 17 only with an adult chaperone and a form.
Right for you
- You're coming as a crew with a car and a gazebo, want hardstyle, forest raves and party hits in one weekend, and don't live far away. It's a good choice for your very first festival, too.
