Northside is Aarhus’s festival: three days in early June in Eskelunden, a nature area of gentle hills on the Aarhus Å that feels secluded despite being close to the city. There is no camping, and the crowd is mostly Danish, many of them from East Jutland.
Northside used to bring in international indie heavyweights such as Queens of the Stone Age; since 2022, regulars have found the line-up too Danish for its price. For 2027 the organiser announces a music budget 30 percent bigger. Three stages with few clashes keep the pace relaxed, the crowd is considered friendly, and mosh pits are rare. The food is organic and was meat-free for years; now there is meat again – both are argued about in Aarhus.

- Pack rubber boots: when it rains, the meadow turns muddy fast despite the wood chips, and umbrellas aren’t allowed on site. Payment is by card or phone only, and after the last concert the exits, the paths by the lakes and the buses jam up – leave earlier or set off later and you’ll get home more relaxed.
