Lollapalooza Berlin is the capital’s big pop festival: two days in Olympiapark, two main stages side by side taking turns so the music never stops. In front of them stand teenagers who sing along to every word, families with kids in ear defenders and groups in glitter, mesh and cowboy boots, and after the last show it gets crowded at the S-Bahn and U-Bahn.
What sets Lolla apart from other city festivals is its fandoms: fans held up purple paper hearts for J-Hope, whole groups roamed the grounds in bald caps for Pitbull, and some travel from Finland or Australia for their star. Up front at the barrier, people hold out for hours, and anyone who steps out often doesn’t make it back; meanwhile, at the edges, people lie on picnic blankets in the grass.

Check first
- Payment is by wristband only; in 2023 and 2024, on-site top-ups started at a high minimum amount, and guests and press alike call the food and drinks expensive: better to top up small amounts online in advance.
- On hot days shade is scarce and the free water points are hard to find, so bring a collapsible bottle and fill it wherever you spot one.
Right for you
- You’d cross Europe for your favourite band, you’d rather sleep in a bed than a tent, and you like a colourful, fairly well-behaved crowd with lots of kids. If you come alone, you’ll find company: fans arrange to meet beforehand in comments, forums and at the hotel.
