Jera on Air started in 1992 as a youth centre party in Ysselsteyn, with a trailer for a stage. Today Jera is big, the music is punk, hardcore and metalcore, and the bands stay close enough to touch: guitarists jump into the pit, singers pull fans up on stage, and anyone who surfs to the front gets a sweaty hug.
On top of that comes a dose of funfair: at the Sparrow people crowdsurf to kids’ pop, paddling pools surf over conga lines, a wheel of fortune spins in a chapel, and outside motorbikes ride up the wall of death. The pit gets rough, but anyone who falls gets picked up; a few guests also got shoved for no reason.
