A festival that grows its own bands: Feine Sahne Fischfilet played here to a few hundred people in 2013, and to 20,000 six years later.

Highfield sits on a peninsula in Lake Störmthal, a flooded opencast lignite mine near Leipzig. Stages and tents stand on meadows and fields, and they get dusty: where Wacken has mud, Highfield has dust, and every mosh pit kicks up a cloud. In the heatwave years of 2025 and 2026 the thermometer climbed above 30 degrees, and there was hardly any shade.
The stages mostly belong to German bands somewhere between rock, indie and rap, and many keep coming back: Kraftklub, Beatsteaks, Marteria, Montreal. Up front, the crowd sings along to every line; almost every band takes a stand against the far right, and the crowd chants along. People look out for each other, too: the medical team called 2025 the calmest Highfield in years.

Check first
- Under the motto One Last Dance, 2026 was the last edition on Lake Störmthal for now; a creative break has been announced for 2027, and what comes after that is open.
- Camping costs extra, you'll sometimes carry your luggage two kilometres from the car park, and in the morning you'll often queue half an hour for the toilets.
Right for you
- For young crews who sing along to German bands, put up with the dust and cheer on statements against the far right. If you don't want politics from the stage or expect big new names every year, you probably won't be happy here.
