Happiness is the local festival between Karlsruhe and Stuttgart: on the edge of the northern Black Forest, the site slopes down to the main stage like an amphitheatre, so you can see everything even from the back. Topping the line-up are German rap and pop names such as K.I.Z, Marteria or Kraftklub, picked, according to the organiser, by what guests ask for.
The crowd is young, and many come back year after year and call it close-knit, even though up to 18,500 people a day now attend. At camp the flunkyball cans start flying at midday, long before the first band plays out front.

Check first
- Tickets are usually gone weeks in advance, camping from Thursday sells out first, and the shop struggled at the start of sales several times. Camping is a separate ticket, and if you only arrive around midday on Friday, you'll search a long time for room for your tent and gazebo.
- Thunderstorms are a real issue here: the site was evacuated in 2023 and 2026, and you then take shelter in your car. On the festival site there are only portaloos; at camp the showers are open and unheated, and soap is banned there.

- You're around twenty, you want the big German rap and pop names with a round of flunkyball first, all just a few minutes from your tent. If you're after new discoveries or have left your mid-twenties behind, you'll soon feel too old here.
