Behind the festival is Elbenwald, a retailer from Cottbus, and that's how it feels: less a concert weekend than a fan meet-up for fantasy, film and games, right in the middle of the Spreeauenpark. During the day you learn sword fighting or pen-and-paper roleplaying, listen to dubbing actors, join the fantasy quiz or walk from character to character on a quest. A theme for each year sets the direction: anime in 2024, pirates in 2025.

An orchestra playing film music has been part of it since the first year and plays Star Wars, Harry Potter and Stranger Things on Sunday evening. Nights are quiet: after midnight the camp is mostly already in its sleeping bags, and you'll look in vain for drinking binges. In 2026 some tents carried stickers saying “Save the Elbenwald Festival”, and the organisers spoke of cost pressure; dates and tickets for 2027 are out anyway.

Check first

  • Bring cash: in 2025 there were no cash machines on site, mobile signal was poor, card payment barely worked at many stalls, and food and drinks are considered expensive. With a camping stay you park in car park D and can take the shuttle to the South Entrance; keep an eye on the last buses in the evening. Day visitors park in car park C near the North Entrance.

Right for you

  • For crews who want to dress up, join in and take part in workshops, and would rather sleep at night than party through. If you only go for the bands, you miss half of it.
