A name from metal history, now at ice-rink scale.
- Pit crew catches crowdsurfers
- Festival's own beer
- Opening band via club contest
From 1986, Eindhoven's Dynamo youth centre grew an open-air festival that, with 118,000 paying visitors in 1995, became the largest multi-day festival in the Netherlands, traffic jams included, with fans barbecuing on the motorway verge. Today's Metalfest fits on the ice rink grounds in the Genneper Parken: a field, a hall, bars, around 10,000 people, and there's no room for many more.
Things get dusty fast in front of the stage: mosh pits, Ghost fans in face paint waiting at the front all day, Avatar fans in outfits and face paint there early, and bands telling stories about their nineties here. The line-up brings big names; for the tenth anniversary in 2025, Within Temptation, Gojira and Opeth. At the end, you swap your hard cup for a guitar pick.

Check first
- Once you leave the site, you can't get back in the same day, even if you're staying at the campsite; your own food, drinks and chairs stay outside. Payment is cashless only. Alcohol is only sold to people aged 18 or over; if you're under 25, you need to show ID at the info point and pick up a wristband. Hearing protection is mandatory for under-18s.
Right for you
- For a crew that wants big metal names without a huge site: three days on a compact site, with a shuttle bus from Eindhoven station.
