Once a year in August, the death metal scene from half of Europe meets in Andernach, and for many it’s above all a family reunion.

The bands play at the youth centre on Stadionstraße; the 2026 schedule runs until midnight each evening, and in 2019 one set had to be cut short to keep the peace for the neighbours. The bill lists a good 30 bands from 18 countries, and some, from Las Vegas for example, play their only EU show here. After their set the musicians are often out in the infield partying along, and when Gutalax play, people in white overalls wave toilet brushes until the ground is covered in toilet paper.
The infield gets full but not crammed, and people know each other: Dutch fans next to locals, number plates from all over Europe, lots of regulars. Between bands some head to the tent next door for their own beer, and on the second day around noon the infield stays thin because the night at the camp went long.

- It’s not certain the next edition will be in Andernach again; check the location before you plan. You’ll mostly pay for drinks in cash, camping is booked on top of your ticket, and vegetarian or vegan options are scarce.

- You want death metal and grind without the hype, with bands who party along after the show and a crowd where you soon spot familiar faces. If you’re looking for anything besides the music, there’s little beyond stalls, merch and the park-bench drinking on Friday.
