Ban! is the Rheingau's May get-together: since 2011, an association for young culture has put three days of programme on the meadows by the Rhine in Geisenheim on the weekend before Ascension Day, and a good ten thousand people come. Bands play the main stage, DJs spin at the electronic stage, and that's where many end up – in 2024 there was even a wine tasting there; this is the Rheingau, after all.
In between, the meadow itself is the programme: karaoke and science talks in the Ban!topia tent, theatre, samba, stilt walkers, craft stalls and a politics café. You spread out a blanket, eat your way through falafel and vegan stalls and stop wherever something grabs you.

Check first
- No source mentions camping for guests, and on Friday and Saturday the stages close at midnight – plan your way home or a bed in advance. Leave your own drinks at home, because the bar pays for the festival, and in early May it gets chilly by the Rhine after sunset.
Right for you
- If you want to open the season early and on a small budget, would rather roam the meadow than hold out in front of one stage, and like ravers, families and grandparents partying together.
