Arezzo Wave is no longer a summer in the stadium but three evenings in early October at Teatro Tenda. Bands from all over Italy apply, regional rounds whittle them down, and 18 finalists play over two evenings, nine a night, starting at half past eight each time. To close, young musicians from Tuscany show what they have worked on during a residency.
Until 2006 Arezzo Wave was a summer festival whose stadium filled up at sunset, with Sonic Youth or Cypress Hill in the evening and afternoon stages for unknowns. Then it moved away for five years, as far as Lecce, and came back in 2012. What has remained is the core idea from 1987: getting bands on stage that nobody knows yet.

- With no camping, you need a bed in Arezzo or head home in the evening. Guests at other events at Teatro Tenda report pillars that partly block the view, and cold in winter when there is no heating.
